Hailed for her “sparkling upper register and clear vocal tone” (Town Topics), soprano Rachael Long has captivated a wide range of audiences from intimate coffee shops to Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre.
This season, Long competed in the finals of American Opera Idol with Opera Connecticut, performed Micaela with Boheme Opera New Jersey and joined the roster of featured artists with Liberty City Arts in Philadelphia.
Other roles include Susanna (Il segreto di Susanna), Nedda (Pagliacci), Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) Corinna and Delia (Il Viaggio a Reims), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), and La dame in Poulenc’s La dame de Monte Carlo. She has had the distinct honor of premiering the role of Narrator in Francis Lynch’s For Those In Peril. Long was a founding member of Forte Chicago, Chicago's premier Opera Improv group.
In concert, Long premiered the music of Chicago-based composer Elizabeth Rudolph in her recital "Finding Home, Finding Self". She also debuted with the Salt Creek Chamber Ensemble as the Soprano Soloist in Handel's Messiah. She made her North Shore Choral Society debut as the Soprano Soloist in Vivaldi's Gloria.
During the pandemic, Long co-created Perk & Bark, a virtual live performance show featuring music, coffee and conversation.
The Pittsburgh native received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University. She has taken part in masterclasses with Marlena Malas, Patricia Craig, and Armen Guzelimian. Long currently resides in Philadelphia.
